Here’s How to Have The Best Birthday Vacation Extravaganza

So, you want to go out and travel and have a huge birthday extravaganza while aboard. This article is going to show you exactly how you go about planning the best birthday trip while vacationing in a Caribbean escape. This could be available for friends and family or it could be a solo trip or just a beautiful couples trip either way it's all about you and your birthday.

Birthday Travel Is All The Rage

If you've been on social media lately you probably have noticed so many beautiful beach vacation settings. That's because people are traveling so much at this point. After two years being cooped up in quarantine people are ready to get back to exploring the world. We recognize the importance of experiences and we want to be able to enjoy ourselves while exploring other places and cultures, safely.

You can certainly travel safely and consciously while having an amazing time. Celebrating a birthday while on vacation is a great way to bring in a milestone or any birthday. There are so many ways to do this, whether it be solo, as a couple, or in a group with friends and family. This post is designed to show you exactly how you can go about planning your next birthday extravaganza abroad.

Get Into the Right Mindset

First thing first, you have to know that not everybody is going to think like you. Some people don't celebrate birthdays at all. Other people would not celebrate their birthdays in this way. And that's OK! What matters here is that this is something that you want to do. So even if you get pushback, and sometimes you do, know that this trip is for you and this is what you want. We'll talk about this later, but do your best to accommodate the best that you can.

Decide What You Want To Do

When picking out your birthday extravaganza you're going to want to decide on how you will travel. You can go to a resort, you can go on a cruise, or you can have a combination of these things. I focused on resorts and cruises because these are the most popular. Of course there's other ways to celebrate your birthday however for this particular article we're gonna focus on these two kinds of ways to celebrate.

Here’s what you want to think about: On a cruise you will have access to many ports while also enjoying all inclusive amenities and many opportunities to engage in different activities while aboard the cruise. If you up for a resort you will likely be in one place with the opportunity to add on excursions, you may have access to all inclusive amenities, and you may find more opportunities for luxurious amenities at an all inclusive rate. With current restrictions however, you may not be able to leave the resort.

Decide on a Budget

You want to think about the cost upfront and early on. This is because the cost will automatically knock some trips out of the running. If you're looking to do some thing remote or further away from you, you will likely spend more money than if you go to a place that is well traveled and well known. Of course you can always travel on a shoestring budget!

Decide Where You Want To Go

Next think about you where you want to go. It’s important to do this before thinking about when you want to go, because often times you will find that certain places are seasonal. For example if you wanted to go to Alaska you can really only go at certain times of the year. It's the same thing if you wanted to go on a cruise in Greece. The best times to go are often seasonal times and other times it's either too cold or too dangerous to travel.

Where you want to go will also affect the pricing as well. If you're looking to do a cruise or activity that is very seasonal you will likely pay more rather than a place that is regularly visited. This will also dictate the price if you are planning on going in an off-peak time. You often see more people traveling in the summer months for the states whether that be to the Caribbean or other places. So even though the weather may be better in the off-season in the place that you are traveling to you might see lower prices. For example, it may be cheaper to travel to Mexico in November than it is in June, July, and August, even though the weather can still be beautiful.

Decide When You Want To Go

After taking into consideration what you want to do and where you want to go then you could begin to decide when you want to go. Just because your birthday is in a certain month doesn't mean that you have to celebrate it exactly then. The purpose of the trip can still be for a birthday event if you're celebrating it outside of your birthday time. Many times resorts and cruises will ask you if you are celebrating some thing while on the cruise and you can note then as well.

Things to Take Into Consideration When Traveling

If you’re going to travel with a multigenerational family, is there any major family events happening soon? Weddings, Graduations, ect can effect who is going to be traveling with you. If you know a Major event may be coming, you may want to consider who you’ll be inviting and when those events take place.

Will children will be in school. A big thing for parents is the school year, and often times parents don’t like for their children to miss school. So if you’re going to be inviting people with children you may want to consider the time of year you are planning on going and even what amenities are available for families and children if the children are invited as well.

Consider the distance. The further away you travel, the more it will cost. This is because you will have to factor in flights and transfers. But also, the further you travel, the more time you’ll lose just attempting to get there.

What Do You Want To Do While There?

Think about what is important to you. Are you up for new adventures? If so then it sounds like you’d like to include excursions in your travel. Is food a big deal for you? Then you may want to have a chef’s experience or try the local cuisine. Anything that you add on to a trip will likely require at least a day, especially if you’re going to leave the property or cruise.

Even activities that you do on property will require a good amount of your time. For things like planning massages, you will likely need to arrive early to fill out waivers. But also, you would want to think about what you eat before and after.

This is will be a factor in helping you decide how much time you want to spend. For shorter trips, I suggest staying closer to home, or a flight that’s going to be less than two hours. If you’d like to see many things or places, book a cruise. If you just want to relax choose a resort. Do not book excursions on shorter trip. Another option will be to drive to some place nearby.

Consider travel restrictions and requirements

At the time of writing this post, many places still have Covid restrictions in place, requiring you to quarantine on site, or take a test to get back into the states. This will mean you want to give yourself plenty of time to fulfill the requirements, so you do not get stuck or delayed on your travel.

Recently, I traveled to Jamaica and required testing before I could check into my flight back to the states. Since I booked an excursion the day before I left, I had to test at the airport. The test did not take long, but it delayed checking in and getting to the gate. We arrived to our flight with 2 minutes to spare. This is why I encourage everyone to plan their testing ahead of time and put excursions to the middle of the trip, with the day before departure to take care of last minute details.
